About
I have been re-inventing myself my whole life. For as long as I can remember I have searched and found. Learned and taught. Engaged with others, always seeking to understand and be understood.
Perhaps addicted to knowledge and having to know WHY? My father will tell you it is no use telling me to do something without explaining the WHY.
So Fresh Roots is about re-inventing yourself and getting a fresh start.
I grew up in Iowa, an island of land, surrounded by land, almost exactly in the middle of the United States. (When the Beach Boys were popular we caught on right about the time they stopped being popular!) Being an inquisitive Iowan I roamed East as far as Pennsylvania, the Dunes of the Southern tip of Lake Michigan (aka “the Ocean”), the deserts of the Southwest, Southern California and now the Pacific Northwest.
Life has continued to amaze me. I hope I live to be a hundred and feel like I feel right now!
Over the years I have accumulated quite a lot of “stuff” in my brain. A lot of people have thanked me for teaching, sharing and inspiring them to be more over the years, so it seems natural to evolve to the next step and go online to share what I have. If any of it is of service to you I am glad.
And so Fresh Roots was born. The time was perfect.
Many people have asked me where did the name Fresh Roots come from? Well it might seem like it grew out of nowhere, but actually a good friend named Craig had a great idea to start a record label co-op that would market self-published musicans. Technology was just inexpensive enough that a lot of musicians could produce their own albums, maintain total control over their art and eliminate the major record label connection. Craig grew up in New Orleans and loves music of all flavors and thought it was high time that musicians put down some fresh roots of their own, reclaim their souls and their money! Amen to that Craig.
Well we started the project and you know the rest of the story …..
Life got in the way.
Still I loved the seed of Craig’s idea and I had already paid for the domain names and web server. So why not put up a website sharing information, based on my lifetime experience of putting down fresh roots of my own, reinventing myself time after time, rising from the ashes and growing.
And the timing was perfect.
Indeed. That’s the true story.
