Did you know that flowers can spring forth feelings of well being and boost your mood?

Several studies document what us flower lovers already knew. Receiving flowers makes us feel special and improves our mood. Flowers in our environment uplift and inspire. Somehow when you around flowers you just FEEL better.

Have you ever noticed how everyone around the flower recipient feels better and the mood improves in the group?

Have you ever stopped to “smell the roses” and felt better somehow?

Well according to a recent study conducted by Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D. of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, being around flowers for as little as a week can actually affect our human behavior.

That’s right. People who live with flowers in their environment are more likely to have improved moods, increased feelings of compassion and reduced anxiety.

Flowers have an immeditate impact on happiness with long-term positive effect on moods.

Etcoff’s study found that people who live with fresh flowers are more likely to have increased feelings of compassion and kindness towards others

Studies also show that this positive reaction to flowers is universal across all age groups and increased contact with friends and family.

Additional research by Diane Relf of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute also shows:

-People communicate better in the presence of flowers or plants.

-We tend to eat food more slowly when flowers are on the table.

-Flowers restore people from mental fatigue and enhance self-esteem.

-Certain types of potted plants, as well as the growing mix used with these plants, remove some pollutants from a room’s atmosphere.

-Placing plants and flowers in a room significantly increases humidity, which reduces some of the effects of dry air such as common colds.

-Other studies have shown that plants can improve the self-concept of prison inmates and help relax psychiatric patients.

Flowers enhance our world more profoundly than simply enjoying the colors and scent.
