  • Hunger or thirst?

Posted on January 5th, 2010 Jeannine Shingler No comments

Is that feeling in your gut hunger or thirst? It could be both, but before you eat, try drinking a glass of pure water first. Dehydration can feel like hunger.

A great many people are living unintentional, but chronically dehydrated. Since the body is largely composed of water and every cell in the body uses H2O for cell function, when the body is dehydrated it is not able to release waste and take in nutrients.

This results in less than optimal cell function and manifesting a variety of symptoms or disorders.

People that are dehydrated don’t think as clearly, feel fatigue, get headaches, suffer from excess stomach acid and many other maladies.

So, drink water every day — lots of it.

A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces. So a 200 pound person would drink around 100 ounces of water a day.

A couple of tips to enhance your wellness with water are:

    1. First thing upon arising… drink at least 8 ounces of water. During sleep our bodies breathe more deeply and moisture is lost through respiration. If you live in a dry climate or cold winters with dry air and indoor heat, you will need to drink even more water to maintain adequate hydration.

Sip water all day - a little at a time is more effective, so that the cells have a chance to absorb it. When the cells are dehydrated and you drink a lot of water at one time, it tends to run right out of the body without being absorbed, similar to how a heavy rain runs of dry cracked ground. The drip drip drip of a slow “all day soaker” rain absorbs deeply.

    2. Before eating every meal, drink a glass of water 10-20 minutes prior to eating. This aids in digestion by hydrating the Gastro-Intestinal track, and the body won’t be struggling to extract water it needs out of the food you consume. (This will also free up energy you can use elsewhere!)

And you will tend to consume less calories since you will feel fuller. Eating fresh or slightly cooked vegetables daily is an excellent way to stay hydrated. The roughage material of the plants helps the body stay hydrated and improves digestion and elimination.

    3. Adequate hydration is key to regular and easy daily eliminations of waste. Both urine — which should be light yellow to clear when properly hydrated, and bowl movements. Less time in the loo is more time for you!

So, right now, go drink some water!

  • Taking baby steps is better than no steps

Posted on December 30th, 2009 Jeannine Shingler No comments

Some times the hardest step is the first one. So just start. It doesn’t have to be perfect, biggest, longest or fastest. Just have a NIKE moment and simply do it.

If you would like to be in better health in the coming year you can take baby steps by walking a little bit more, drinking more water, and taking time to laugh.

Take those baby steps today. And tomorrow too, because they all count!

Happy Healthy New Year to all!

  • Flowers boost mood and Spring well being

Did you know that flowers can spring forth feelings of well being and boost your mood?

Several studies document what us flower lovers already knew. Receiving flowers makes us feel special and improves our mood. Flowers in our environment uplift and inspire. Somehow when you around flowers you just FEEL better.

Have you ever noticed how everyone around the flower recipient feels better and the mood improves in the group?

Have you ever stopped to “smell the roses” and felt better somehow?

Well according to a recent study conducted by Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D. of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, being around flowers for as little as a week can actually affect our human behavior.

That’s right. People who live with flowers in their environment are more likely to have improved moods, increased feelings of compassion and reduced anxiety.

Flowers have an immeditate impact on happiness with long-term positive effect on moods.

Etcoff’s study found that people who live with fresh flowers are more likely to have increased feelings of compassion and kindness towards others

Studies also show that this positive reaction to flowers is universal across all age groups and increased contact with friends and family.

Additional research by Diane Relf of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute also shows:

-People communicate better in the presence of flowers or plants.

-We tend to eat food more slowly when flowers are on the table.

-Flowers restore people from mental fatigue and enhance self-esteem.

-Certain types of potted plants, as well as the growing mix used with these plants, remove some pollutants from a room’s atmosphere.

-Placing plants and flowers in a room significantly increases humidity, which reduces some of the effects of dry air such as common colds.

-Other studies have shown that plants can improve the self-concept of prison inmates and help relax psychiatric patients.

Flowers enhance our world more profoundly than simply enjoying the colors and scent.

Here is a beautiful site to browse for flowers on your computer when you can’t be near the real thing.

  • Imagination is more important than…

Posted on February 20th, 2009 Jeannine Shingler No comments

     Albert Einstein
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

    Harry Palmer
“Reality consists of the experiences we believe are real.
What is real may or may not be the same for everyone.”

    Wayne Dyer
“When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.”

    George Bernard Shaw
“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

    Brian Tracy
“The establishment of a clear, central purpose or goal in life is the starting point of all success.”

Change your view - change your life.  Well it may sound simplistic, but the position of our body alters our mood.  Research has shown that depressed sad people tend to hold their heads with a downward cast.  Looking down and feeling down.

    Look up and LOOK UP!

Most smiles are started by other smiles.  Don’t take my word for it, try it yourself.

Have you ever rearranged the furniture in your house and felt a sense of relief or refreshment?  Why is that?  Sure you might have taken the time to clean the dust bunnies out from under the furniture so your space is cleaner and lighter, but it’s the same furniture, in the same room, with the same window coverings and flooring.

So what is different?  Well your perspective has changed.  Now when you sit on your furniture you are looking at a different wall than before.  You have literally changed your perspective and hit the F5 key to resfresh your brain.

Have you ever walked past the same crooked hanging picture over and over again until you no longer perceived that the picture was hanging crooked?

On the Internet good webmasters move the ads around on the page slightly in order to keep our attention. When the page looks the same time after time, we cease to see the ads and develop what has been dubbed “ad blindness.”   The same kind of thing happens in our daily life with all kinds of things.

For example, I am a recovering packrat and clutterbug.  I am dominant right brain creative, visually wired person and as such like to have things in sight lest I forget about them.  (Out of sight out of mind, comes to mind.) Ironically, I like clean spaces, uncluttered surfaces and a neat environment.  (I know sounds mixed up doesn’t it?!)

On my journey to learn how to live with less stuff, I discovered an interesting method to get a reality check on my living space.  At that time my office was where I spent the most time and it also doubled as a living area and was jam packed to the gills with “stuff”.

I took photographs of the entire space doing a 360 of my office.  It was packed with useful and needed items.  (I can hear you say, yeah right, I bet it was all “useful” and “needed”)  No really, I did use most of it!

Since I spent a lot of time in this space, after awhile I really had no concept of what others saw when they first saw it.  My mind had manufactured some other kind of world and when I saw the photographs I was shocked.  I was blown away at just how much stuff I had and how poorly my space really looked.  I also began to see how I needed to dig out and lighten the space and change my perspective.

How you can dig out of an overwhelming clutter crisis in a few easy steps, is the subject of an upcoming post.  If you have a problem space, go ahead and take photographs of the room now.  We do a kind of “before and after” with these to help keep our space looking the way we want it to.

Imagine your space exactly the way you want it.  Because imagination is really more important than knowledge.

  • Your “WHY”- What really inspires you?

Posted on February 14th, 2009 Jeannine Shingler No comments

    What is YOUR “WHY” ?

What inspires you when times get tough? What really motivates you to do what you do?

Finding out your “WHY” is a powerful personal development tool.

For any activity (like a career or vocation) that you have a major investment of your self, it is helpful to answer the following questions to further clarify and discover more about exactly WHY you are doing this.

Inevitably there are times of struggle and things don’t always go smoothly.  Frustration and non-useful self-talk can set it.  Matthew Ferry calls it the “Drunk Monkey”.

The voice inside our head — our “Monkey Mind” has been called other things by other people, but we all know this voice that insists that we can’t do something or shouldn’t do something that we want to do.  The voice is scared, and insistent that things remain safe and consistent.

When your mind churns with non-useful self-talk, it is helpful to re-read your answers to your “WHY” questions.  This brings your attention back on your real intent and helps you refocus your energy on what you really want.

If after doing this exercise you have feedback you are comfortable sharing, please comment below.   Some people have interesting experiences doing this exercise.

So here are the questions.  Write down the first thing that comes to your mind. Don’t think about it -  just write down what flows out.

        1.  Why am I really doing this?

        2.  Who supports my success?

        3.  Who needs me to succeed?

        4.  Why me?

        5.  Why not me?

        6.  Why now?

  • Fresh Roots is about re-inventing your world.

    Don't settle for "good enough"

    Don't settle for "good enough"

Fresh Roots is about re-inventing your world.

Here you can learn new things, discover little-known secrets for health, wealth and fulfillment.

Learn new things, find solutions, and maybe put down some “fresh roots” of your own and begin anew.  Create your own “second chance” or “do-over.”

    Don’t settle for “good enough.”

You can be more.  You CAN have more.   And you can enjoy your life more.

Fresh Roots is all about sharing information and being of service to others.  We hope you explore, share and enjoy the rewards and benefits of our experience.  Use what speaks to you, share with others, comment and engage.  There is power and energy in the interaction of people.  And by sharing we enhance our experience.

Fresh Roots focuses on ways to enhance the quality of our life by keeping what serves us and adding new ways to live or tweaking the little things.  By sharing little-known secrets for health, wealth and fulfillment, we complete the circle of life.

Each person is experiencing their own life adventure and in a unique place in time and space.  And while not everyone wants to re-invent themselves, a lot of us are looking for little (or large) improvements in our lives.

Small changes can and do improve our lives to a larger degree and some cases it is the seeminly ”little things” that make all the difference.  For example, adding one too many things to do to an already busy day can push us over the top into breakdown.  And by simply eliminating one thing from our agenda can give us the space to enjoy a relaxed day.

The secret is in the harmony and balance of our daily life flow.

In searching a lifetime for solutions to problems, I have found two things that can profoundly change people’s lives: The Holosync Solution and Nutritional Cleansing.

The Holosync Solution is based on cutting edge brain technology that allows the listener to achieve deep meditative states literally at the touch of a button.  You can get a free demo CD that explains how it works with a sample by clicking here

The benefits of meditation have long been known.  Holosync takes the latest brain science and enhances the experience by pushing the brain. Sort of like exercise for the brain.  The result is new neural pathways, reducted stress levels, increased abilty to cope with life and the unexpected and improved outlook on life.

The other solution is Nutritional Cleansing. Our bodies are constantly being taxed by impurities and toxins from our environment. This toxic bodyburden can become too much for the body to filter out when the body does not receive the necessary daily nutrients. Our commercial food supply is deficient and in some cases bankrupt. The system that gets results that we use is Isagenix. A large part of the lifestyle and wellness coaching I do, revolves around teaching people how to cleanse, how to listen to their bodies and learn to optimize their health. Coaching is free for all cleansing clients. Please call 360-693-7711 for your free assessment. We can help you optimize your life!

Watch Dr. Dr. Give Me The Truth or Cleansed for Life to find out more.

Nutritionally cleansing has become necessary as our food supply is contaminated with chemicals harmful to the human body and the extent of the link between toxins and disease becomes known.

The human body is an amazing miracle, but it does have limits. Why live with less than optimal health and just get by, when you can help your body be the miracle it was meant to be through nutritional cleansing?

Call 360-693-7711 for your free assessment and personal assistance customizing the right program for you. The good news is you can flood your body with the nutrients it needs with the money you already spend on food! So you aren’t adding an expense, but you are optimizing your health. Priceless.
